Pixel Poetryx -- for 2D graphic image analysis and manipulation
![]() Detail from Sacre Coeur, Paris, after 'colour mashing' | About UsThe main focus of our company is research into digital image manipulation techniques. We also provide software tools for image analysis and manipulation. The emphasis is on high quality, high resolution, design & production of small images for websites, business cards, postcards, book covers and dust jackets. The Pixel Poetryx Image Manipulator application supports the editing of photographic images (.jpeg or .png files). Text can be added to images. Images can be distorted (e.g. fisheye effect) or corrected for distortion (e.g. pincushion, barrel, converging verticals). Edits can be applied to selected parts of an image, applied via a gauze, and faded into unedited areas. Cut & paste operations allow image texture and image regions to be analyzed and overlaid. Conversion between grey-scale, RGB and RGBA allows novel colour effects to be achieved. The application can also create abstract mathematical designs based on real functions of two real variables: f(x,y), f(r,theta); Mandelbrot family fractal patterns; and chaos theory strange attractors, after work by Field and Golubitsky*. |
The intention is to marry creative, artistic, graphic
design capabilities with powerful, mathematically based, software
algorithms. If you are interested in the theory or practice of digital image analysis or manipulation...
* The work of
Michael Field
and
Martin Golubitsky
is described, with many beautiful illustrations, in the book
Symmetry in Chaos.
Some things you can do with Pixel Poetryx

This software runs on Mac OS X and PC (using Java 1.5 JRE or later). The software has been tested with Mac OS X 10.4 and Windows 7, and has been run on Linux. It runs on any computer that supports Java 1.5 or later (pretty well any personal computer less than 5 years old).
The software is continually evolving and is currently at version 1.28 (alpha). Please contact us for information about software availability and the possibility of taking part in the Pixel Poetryx alpha and beta test programs. This would give you early access to the latest software.
